1991年，凭《阿飞正传》获第10届香港电影金像奖最佳导演奖
1995年，凭《重庆森林》获第14届香港电影金像奖最佳导演奖
1997年，凭《春光乍泄》获得第50届康城影展最佳导演奖
2006年5月21日，在法国康城获法国政府颁授荣誉军团骑士级勋章，以表扬其对电影业的贡献，并由法国文法兼通讯部长德瓦布尔代表法国总统主持勋章颁发仪式（但大部份中文传媒错娱把该奖项翻译为“法国文学艺术骑士勋章”，那是另一个法国勋章，由文化部颁授）
